Find The Fish!
It's
Not How Good You Are - It's How Good They Are
From
the desk of Timothy A. Gross
In
poker, one of the most important factors of whether you
win or lose is not how good you are, how experienced you
are, or whether you're wearing your lucky underwear...
It's
how good/bad the other players at the table are.
I'm
going to repeat that, because it's important. If you're
an average or above-average or even professional poker player,
the single-most critical factor to whether you will leave
a poker table a winner or a loser is whether you're sitting
at a table full of fish or sharks.
If
you're sitting at a table full of fish (beginning/bad players),
you'll probably make tons of money without even half-trying
unless you have a really unlucky night.
If
you're sitting at a table with Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan,
Howard Lederer, Gus Hansen, Phil Ivy, and Phil Helmuth,
you're in for a rough ride!!
The
odds of success in business are the same way.
If
you can write an above-average sales letter, you may find
it really tough to make money with national advertising
- But you may be able to make a fortune advertising locally.
On
a national level, your ads are competing with some of the
world's best copywriters.
In
your local town, your above-average ads may allow you to
run circles around your competition.
Go
Where The Fishing's Easy
This
applies to product selection as well as the location of
you're advertising.
A
lot of people think it should be "easy" to sell
weight-loss products because so many billions of dollars
are spent on weight-loss products every year.
But
where there's blood in the water (money), there's... SHARKS!
You're
competing with Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, Richard Simmons,
and tons of others with multi-million dollar advertising
budgets and world-class copywriters.
-But
if you're selling a handy new kitchen utensil, you may be
able to easily dominate your marketplace.
