Don’t Use Trademarked Names In Your Domain Name

I’ve stumbled onto several websites in the last few days that are using trademarked names in their domain name… bad idea.

In other words, somebody selling an ebook on how to make money with Google is using the domain name GoogleSecrets.com for example.

The problem is that you may spend time, money and effort building up traffic to that domain, only to be notified that you’re infringing on their trademark and that you must cease and desist at once. -And then all your hard work is down the drain.

You may be contacted immediately (I registered a domain with the word “ebay” in it once and received an email from their legal dept within 2 weeks), or it could take months, a year, or never (depending on the company, its policies, and whether they actively search for infringing domain names), but it’s not worth the risk.

Come up with a related domain name without using the trademark, you’ll thank me in the long run.
