Cool Blogging Tools: Wordpress & Blogger
By Tim Gross - Internet Business Blog | June 6, 2007
This website (TimGross.com) is being run by Wordpress blog software, which is a really handy content-management tool.
If you weren’t aware of it, Wordpress is free and is “open source”, meaning there are multiple continuing to develop and improve it.
While it may seem intimidating to try to install Wordpress on your server (and it does have a learning curve), did you know that you can sign up for a free Wordpress account on Wordpress.com and “get a feel for it” right now?
You can sign up for it by clicking here
Your URL becomes www.username.wordpress.com
That way you can figure out how it works ahead of time before deciding to “plunge in”.
You can also sign up for a free Blogger.com account by going there and clicking “Create Your Blog Now”. I don’t have anything against Blogger, but I use Wordpress because I prefer it.
If you DO decide you’d like to install Wordpress on your own domain, either to use as your main website’s content management software, or install into a /blog/ directory so you can give specific updates there, check to see if your current hosting company offers one-click install of Wordpress to your domain. (Many do.)
If they DON’T, I’d highly recommend switching your hosting (or registering a new domain to host) at Blue Host, Click Here to check them out. For $6.95/month, you can not only host your domain with them, get one-click Wordpress installation as well as all the other features you’d expect, but:
1) You can actually get tech support on the phone almost immediately whenever you need them, night or day
2) You can also host up to 5 other website domains on the same hosting account for FREE. Yep, for $6.95 a month, you can have up to 5 domains hosted with them free, all with their own email addresses and FTP if needed.
I’ve been very pleased with their hosting, I’d definitely suggest checking them out, and toying with Wordpress and/or Blogger a little bit to get up to speed with them.
Cheers!
P.S. - A friend of mine does web design and maintenance for clients and I was telling him about Wordpress, saying he might want to consider setting clients’ sites up with it so they could make content additions on their own and be able to have control of their website.
He looked at me like I was crazy. He said, “Are you kidding? They pay me $50 a pop to make any changes for them, WHY WOULD I SET IT UP SO THEY COULD DO IT THEMSELVES???!!!!”
-He’s got a point I guess. However, if YOU’D like to save $50 a pop, look into managing your website content with Wordpress ![]()

Hello Tim,
Hope this finds you well. How is the Hummer driver?
In your iProfitReport email of 26/03/07 in your subject you say, “Ask me anything” so-o - I am working on helping small communities with different things. My ‘help’ question: Will you tell/show me how to ‘clean up’ this site and with what program - I do have FPXpress?
http://www.townofluseland.com/
I believe the site may have been created in Netscape but, visitors are told ‘best viewed in IE’.
Cordially with thanks,
