Cool Tool: Automate Repetitive Typing
By Tim Gross - Internet Business Blog | May 20, 2007
Anything that saves time or energy is cool with me.
Here’s how to save your fingers from having to re-type the same blocks of text over and over. It’s called “ShortKeys”, and you can download the free “Lite” version by clicking here.
Here’s what it does: If you end a lot customer support emails with:
I hope that helps answer your question. If you’re still having trouble with anything, please don’t hesitate to contact us by emailing us back or calling our office during normal business hours at xxx-xxx-xxxx. Sincerely, Your Name
…You can automate it to automatically paste in by typing, for example, “.s1″ (without the quotations).
I picked .s1 because starting with a period means you won’t type s1 by accident and have it paste in when you don’t want it to. “s” stands for “signoff”, and “1″ denotes which signoff. Your .s2 could be:
Good grief, you’re an idiot! Did your mother drop you on your head as a baby? Please go away and never bother me again.
-OK, you probably shouldn’t use that one… But you get the point.
You could have entire customer support responses be triggered with .cs1, .cs2, .cs3, it’s much faster than even copy-pasting responses from a document.
The Lite version of the software gives you up to 10 responses to use free. That may be enough for you, but if you fall in love with it and get greedy, you can cough up $20 for the full version.
