Ask An Online Business Expert Anything
By Tim Gross - Internet Business Blog | March 26, 2007
Hello Friends & Subscribers!
Well, it’s my birthday today (March 26th), so happy birthday to me.
I didn’t ask for anything for my birthday (I’m annoying to shop for), so apparently I’ve already got everything I need.
Instead, I’d like to offer to help YOU with your online business in any way that I realistically can.
Feel free to post a comment/question after this post (or any other post here), or click on the “Contact Tim” or “Website Evaluation” links at the top of this page.
Either way, I hope everything is going great, and I look forward to hearing from you.
- Tim

Would you discuss the possibility of doing a mailing to your list with me for a relevant high quality (proven) information product?

Hi, Tim…
I actually have two questions, if you don’t mind…
I’ve heard it said that your online business should be centered around your passions and interests, but my passions and interests are in writing, specifically, playwriting and writing musical theatre writing. I also love watching broadway musicals. I love it so much that I recently started taking classes in playwriting and musical theatre writing. However, when I did my “market research†to see if there was anybody else interested in the topic (I looked at wordtracker to see how often playwriting and musical theatre writing popped up), I couldn’t find any! When I searched on Google, the only main sites I’ve saw was http://www.broadway.com and http://www.broadwayworld.com (two of my favorite sites), which deals mainly with upcoming musicals and how to get tickets. I’m not really interested in selling tickets. I’m interested in learning how to write for musical theatre. So, after all that, my question is, are there some “passions and interests†that you just can’t start an online business with? Should I just abandon my thought of starting an online business dealing with playwriting and musical theatre writing and continue on with my classes?
[Tim says:Â here's your answer ]
My second question is one I have been asking a lot, but have really yet to get a good answer from: How do you build your credibility and succeed when you are a “complete newbie†on a limited marketing budget, going into an extremely competitive market and going up against businesses with more resources, money and experience than you? Let’s also assume that these online businesses have tons of quality traffic going to their site, and because you’re new and they don’t know who you are (or even how serious you are), joint-venturing with them would be near impossible. So far, the best response I’ve gotten is to look for a “niche†within your business, but what if that “niche†is also equally competitive?
I know this post is kind of long, but thanks for taking the time to read this, Tim. I look forward to your reply!

Hi Tim,
Just want to wish you a very Happy (Belated) Birthday. I know a girl whose birthday is on the same day as yours, and you and Vince Vaughn were born on the same day, also. He was also Senior President from his high school. So, you are both young.
So how is it out there in Palm Springs? Do you eat dates? I love them, especially from Hadleys. Though I haven’t been to Palm Springs in years, there are no doublt a lot of fabulous restaurants. I hear the airport is better to go than Ontario. California is in bad need of rain (not fires).
Have a great one with your family and pets.
Ciao, Gwen

Tim,
Hi ! I want to start a business on internet, where I can make around $250 per week by working 40 hours a week. I am living in Pakistan and working with a multi-national Oil Company as Systems administrator. I am looking forward to start internet business and leave the job.
So is it possible to start a safe business like that on internet?
Thanks for your time !!
Best regards
