Online Business Morals And Ethics
By Tim Gross - Internet Business Blog | October 17, 2008
This is the start of a series I’m going to be writing on business morals and ethics.
It’s a very important topic for entrepreneurs and those in the start-up phase of doing business, because I believe that misconceptions, concerns, and worries may be getting in the way of success for many.
To start, I’m going to break down people’s business practices into a few categories:
1) Terrified of getting a customer or even subscriber complaint of any type. Terrified even of getting criticized by non-buyers
2) Overly passive marketing that doesn’t push for the sale. Beyond non-hype, the seller doesn’t even sound that convinced of his product himself
3)Competent selling process featuring strong headlines, promises, and risk-reversal guarantees
4) Hypey selling process overpromising results and making big claims that most people don’t believe are true, stressing a no questions asked money back guarantee
5) Aggressive selling tactics that includes a continuity rebilling program that the buyer has to take action to cancel
6) Aggressive selling tactics that include a “hidden” continuity program that many buyers don’t even notice until after they’ve purchased
7) Hypey selling process overpromising results and using a tricky “fine-print” guarantee that will make it hard for the buyer to satisfy the conditions of a refund
8.) Scams and rip-offs. Refund requests not granted. Illegal.
I’ll go through the above categories in future posts and explain what I believe is good and bad about them. I think you’ll find it very surprising.
