The More You Tell, The More You Sell -Including on eBay

By Tim Gross - Internet Business Blog | December 11, 2006

eBay logoThe Nintendo Wii game console is sold out pre-Christmas, and I checked eBay to see what kind of markup eBay sellers are getting on them.

The Nintendo Wii console retails for about $249, and I wasn’t sure how hard it was going to be to find one. What they’re selling for on eBay is a pretty good indication of how scarce they are. (ie, the higher the price, the harder they are to find.)

Here are two eBay listings that just closed, virtually identical except for the Headlines of the listings. Here they are, along with the auction closing prices for each:

  1. Nintendo Wii - Game console  ($462)
  2. NINTENDO WII - Game console w/ Sports Package (5 games)  ($560)

Does the #2 listing include anything extra? No… ALL Nintendo Wii game consoles ship with :

…But not all eBay listings LIST all the default components included. If you’re a frazzled parent wary about getting ripped off on eBay as you desperately try to get your kid their #1 requested toy, which listing are you going to choose to bid on, the one sparse on facts, or the one with the detailed listing?

In this example, the more detailed eBay listing sold for $100 more. As the old saying goes, “The more you tell, the more you sell.” Are YOU telling your customers enough to maximize your sales?
