SUBMIT To My Authority!!!
By Tim Gross - Internet Business Blog | June 9, 2008
Isn’t the word “Submit” friendly?
You can use it in such cutesy sentences as:
- Submit to my authority!
- Submit to my will!
- Submit to my superior firepower!
Oh, and one more:
[Submit This Form]
From a marketing perspective, “Submit” is a terrible word. So why do most websites have a button that says, “Submit” at the bottom of their forms?
- It’s obtuse.
- It doesn’t remind people what they’re getting when they push the button.
- It makes them have uncomfortable flashbacks to the 18 months they spent in a Turkish prison. (or maybe that’s just me…)
ANYWAY… The good news is you can change the wording on a form to anything you want.
If you ever find a button that says “Submit” on one of my websites, it’s an oversight… All my buttons say things like, [Click To Subscribe Now], [Click To Send Info], [Click To Download Now], [Click To Help Rescue Tim From The Turkish Prison], etc., etc.
Key Points: Don’t get stuck using boring and confusing tech language. Oh, and if you drop the soap, just leave it.
