Would A King Be Better Than A President?
By Tim Gross - Internet Business Blog | June 6, 2008
Being President of the United States has a lot of similarities to being a CEO of a company. You’re responsible for the whole enchilada, and one of the main factors that guide decisions is this:
Making Decisions For Short-Term Benefit Versus Long-Term Benefit
The best CEO would be the owner, or at least someone who’s in it for the long haul. Why? Because they don’t have the luxury of making short-term decisions that temporarily make more money but that will bankrupt the company in the long-term.
If I were the CEO of Coca-Cola for a 2-year term and I had no responsibility for how the company did in the long-term, I’d immediately cancel all paid advertising. Coca-Cola spent about $180 million in advertising last year. Over a 2-year period, the results of not advertising wouldn’t have much of an effect at all on their sales, but their profit margin would increase in the short-term. It’s Coca-Cola, do you really need an ad to remind you to buy it?
But long-term, they’d slowly lose market share if they didn’t advertise.
The problem with Presidents is they’re in it for the short-term, 4-8 years. All you’ve got to do is make sure the duct tape stays attached to keep all the cracks from crumbling into a major meltdown, and then pass on the continuing problems tot he next President, who does the same thing.
(Case in point: We’re in the first war in the history of the world where taxes were lowered instead of raised. We’ve run up the biggest debt ever… what a coincidence.)
I assume that in a lot of ways the Republicans can’t wait to get out of office so they can turn around and start blaming everyone else for the problems they started. Ex-Presidents automatically become multi-millionaires (just like ex-CEO’s, by the way) when they leave their position, so what’s their motivation?
Sucking it up and making long-term decisions that are painful in the short-term are REQUIRED to maintain a successful business. They’re also required to run a successful country long-term. The problem is, nobody would get elected if their campaign slogan was, “Short-term pain now will benefit your grandkids!”
…And so here we are. So who’s up for voting for a benevolent King? ![]()

By today’s standards, the President has seemingly placed himself in a “Kingly” position. Having used his privilege (rightly so?) of Executive Order, he has given himself powers similar to what a King would bestow (usurp?) upon himself.
Without getting all anarchist here, I believe we all need to take a serious look at where the real power in the US is located. Do the research, you’ll be amazed.
