How To Bundle eBay Items To Increase Selling Price

By Tim Gross - Internet Business Blog | April 27, 2008

I bought two sets of tickets to the 3-day “Coachella Fest”, a well-known music concert event that just occurred last Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.  The tickets cost about $100 apiece and I only planned to go Friday, so I had to sell the Sat-Sun tickets.

It was a last-minute decision to buy the tickets so I only had about 4 days once I received the tickets to sell them before the event…

Taking a look at eBay ticket listings for Coachella Fest:

Interestingly, no one was selling tickets bundled together for Sat-Sun together.  It made sense to me that a lot of people would want to go Saturday and Sunday, and while Sunday tickets were selling really cheaply, why take the risk (and hassle) of buying tickets from multiple sellers? Especially since the Saturday tickets were all being sold in auction format, so buyers chasing the price near the end of auction wouldn’t be sure whether they’d win or not.

Especially because time was running out.

Anyway, after looking at what everybody else was doing, I put up the 4 tickets (2 Sat, 2 Sun) for auction bundled together with a “Buy Now” price of $400 and a 1-day time frame.

They sold in 12 hours, I got more money for the total 4 tickets as a whole than most people on eBay were getting, the buyer got hassle-free tickets at a fair price, and it all happened quickly.

There was nothing special about the 4 tickets, but by bundling and selling them in a way that fit what some people were looking for (and that others weren’t offering), I made a quick sale at a higher price than most others were getting.

…And they all lived happily ever after.
