Why A College Education… Isn’t Worth Much?
By Tim Gross - Internet Business Blog | April 26, 2008
I was talking about colleges with a friend today who’d gone to UC Berkeley… He said that while he thought it was a great school, he didn’t know anyone who’d gone to Berkeley who wound up being really successful and that maybe it was due to the school being too well-rounded instead of specializing in certain areas.
(Editors Note: I have no doubt that there are tons of Berkeley graduates who have become hugely successful, I’m not bashing the school !!… but it got me thinking…)
I’m sure you’ve heard the expression,
“Knowledge Is Power”
…But what kind of knowledge? I have all kinds of amazing knowledge: I know the earth isn’t flat, I know George Bush has an ekalectic reading list, I know of a simple vaccine that can virtually wipe out polio… Heck, I even know that E=MC squared.
I must be some kind of genius!
(And I am, ask my mommy, but…) The problem with that powerful information is that it’s commonly known so it’s lost its power.
In college your classmates are learning everything you are, so unless you poison them all on graduation day (hmmm…) you don’t have any more knowledge or power than they do.
Due to my college Econ classes, I can draw a supply/demand graph that’ll knock your socks off. I can show you why the demand for gas is inelastic which is why our consumption isn’t dropping off much. Do you want to pay me to show you the graph? Nah? I didn’t think so.
I’ve also spent over a million dollars in online advertising and I know some unusual ways and places to make lots of money promoting products in certain niches.
Now that knowledge is powerful and valuable… and you can’t learn it in college. A general knowledge of things is obviously necessary, and if you need online training I hope you’re taking advantage of my free video tutorials, they’re getting rave reviews…
Once you’ve watched them and are up to speed, it’s time to brainstorm: What powerful knowledge do you have? How can you leverage it to your benefit?
